MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Mental Health Services have become increasingly important in the treatment of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C.  Our counselors understand these illnesses, the challenges faced by those living with them and the needs and issues of their loved ones.

MAP’s Mental Health team offers help to long-term survivors, the newly infected and those affected by these illnesses who are struggling with isolation, relationship issues, low self-esteem, depression and anxiety, among other concerns.

We offer individual counseling, support groups, psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring. Marin residents living with HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis C who meet low income guidelines and have no insurance (or are underinsured) for mental health services qualify for free care. Others pay a very affordable sliding scale fee.

Current support groups include:
An HIV/AIDS Long-Term Survivors’ Support Group - Participants have come together on a weekly basis since 2004 to reduce isolation, discuss health challenges, share helpful information and provide support to one another.

The Reconnect Group - Participants who have become disabled meet to talk about reconnecting to social supports and to the larger Marin and/or Bay Area community. They also discuss work opportunities and the many challenges and considerations involved in resuming employment.

For more information or to arrange an initial appointment, contact Bill Jones, MFT.

If you are experiencing an emergency call Marin County Crisis Unit located at Marin General Hospital 499-6666 or call 911.
